An Extremely Detailed Map of the 2016 Presidential Election – The New York Times

This map shows President’s Trump victory was not a fluke event. Most of the country is ‘red’. This means most of the country believes in the republican message. This map is extremely red. Democrats’ saving grace is most of the major population centers are ‘blue’. But it’s easy to see how Trump won the electoral college. The more I look at this map the more astounding it is.

Black-White Wage Gap Grows as Americans Remain in Denial

The wage gap between blacks and whites is the worst it’s been in nearly four decades, according to a new report from the Economic Policy Institute.

Last year, the hourly pay gap between blacks and whites widened to 26.7%, with whites making an average of $25.22 an hour compared to $18.49 for blacks, the EPI found. Almost 40 years ago, in 1979, the wage gap between blacks and whites was 18.1%, with whites earning an inflation-adjusted average of $19.62 an hour and blacks earning $16.07 an hour.

What’s driving the wage gap has little to do with access to education, disparities in work experience or where someone lives, EPI found. Rather, the researchers found “discrimination…and growing earnings inequality in general,” to be the primary factors at play.

“Race is not a skill or characteristic that should have any market value as it relates to your wages, but it does,” said Valerie Wilson, the director of the program on Race, Ethnicity and the Economy at the EPI and a co-author of the report. (CNN)

Winning battle against poverty by 2020

China has a plan to lift everyone out of poverty by 2020! 2020! What plan does the so-called richest country (USA) in the world have for eliminating poverty? None that I know of.

Editorial #1Why Did We Come Back?

September 8, 2017 - This editorial marks the return of The Nubian News after eleven years.

An African proverb says, “Dreams are voices of ancestors.”

King said, “I have a dream.”

Oscar Hammerstein saidYou gotta have a dream. If you don’t have a dream, how you gonna make a dream come true?

Nigerian proverb: “If I tell you my dream, you might forget it. If I act on my dream, perhaps you will remember it, but if I involve you, it becomes your dream too.”

My dream is that one day we will all be free. My grandchildren will never have to debate whether someone hates them or is holding them hostage because of the color of their skin.

I dream that one day Trenton, this city I love so much, will look and function as the Black Mecca.

As I walk this city I see gleaming streets of gold and houses and homes, beautiful beyond words, with warmth of love and prosperity in every window.

I see people who have thrown off the yolk of pain, loneliness and despair and walk with heads high. Kids playing safely in well-tended parks, going to schools which nurture and educate them eases my mind and uplifts my soul.

I think of Trenton, the soul of Mercer County as the center of it all. Between Washington D.C. up through Baltimore then on to Philadelphia, pulling into Newark and then the Big Apple, on up to Hartford and Providence til you hit Boston. In the middle of all that is New Jersey’s capital city, Trenton.

One day I would like to see Mercer County filled with the best Black people have to offer. Because we lie midway between New York and Philadelphia there is plenty of everything: jobs, culture, entertainment, transportation, education, vacations spots, economic opportunity, history, and the weather is getting better.

This is why we brought back The Nubian News. People make up a city. Trenton has some of the best people in the world. There is work we need to do to make it better for the few who don’t have a dream. My heart breaks for them but together they can hope too. It isn’t right to believe there is not a better life out there.

It isn’t all their fault. We must shoulder part of the blame. We must come up with solutions. I believe we will.

Every week we will talk to you and every week we want you to talk back to us. Sharing ideas, dreams, we will begin to set goals, then plan ways to find answers to problems that plague our great city

Communication is the key. If the brain can’t communicate with the legs – you won’t walk. We haven’t been able to talk with each other on a citywide level. Our mayor and other leaders don’t talk with us because they haven’t had a way to do it. Now they do.

Each week The Nubian News will give a newspaper to every home and every business in Trenton. All of us will be on the same page, getting the same information. Through these pages the mayor can talk with all of us and we will be able to answer him.

We can make everything work if we can talk with each other. Now we can talk with each other. In the weeks to come our website will become more functional and we’ll have that platform too.

We have a big job before us. But we’ve always had big jobs to do. We’ve done them before and we’ll do them again. We came out of slavery, we grew stronger even without our forty acres and a mule, we defeated jim crow, took our civil rights and we can do whatever we want to do. All we have to do is dream, devise a strategy to achieve it, pull up our sleeve and work our butts off.

Up, you mighty race, accomplish what you will. – Marcus Mosiah Garvey

You know what they say – talk is cheap

Listening to Trump was like a total waste of time to many at the UN.

North Korea: Trump’s UN speech amounted to ‘the sound of a dog barking’

North Korea’s foreign minister has delivered a scornful response to US President Donald Trump’s threat to destroy the hermit kingdom, likening it to the sound of “a dog barking.”

Ri, in his country’s first response to Trump’s speech, was derisive. “If he was thinking he could scare us with the sound of a dog barking, that’s really a dog dream,” Ri told reporters outside his hotel in New York. In Korean, a dog dream is one that is absurd and makes little sense.

If you hate Colin Kaepernick, you must also hate Jackie Robinson

There I was, the black grandson of a slave, the son of a black sharecropper, part of a historic occasion, a symbolic hero to my people. The air was sparkling. The sunlight was warm. The band struck up the national anthem. The flag billowed in the wind. It should have been a glorious moment for me as the stirring words of the national anthem poured from the stands. Perhaps, it was, but then again, perhaps, the anthem could be called the theme song for a drama called The Noble Experiment. Today, as I look back on that opening game of my first world series, I must tell you that it was Mr. Rickey’s drama and that I was only a principal actor. As I write this twenty years later, I cannot stand and sing the anthem. I cannot salute the flag; I know that I am a black man in a white world. In 1972, in 1947, at my birth in 1919, I know that I never had it made.

Massive credit bureau hack raises troubling questions

This is extremely serious for you. Check out the Equifax credit bureau to find out if your credit information has been compromised. If it has explore the options you have open to you. Equifax is offering monitoring for those who have been affected.

It could be the worst-ever data breach for American consumers, exposing some of the most sensitive data for a vast number of US households.

The Most Racist Statue in America Is in … Pittsburgh, and It’s the Most Ridiculous Magical Negro You’ll Ever See

There are times, like when watching footage of what happened in Charlottesville, Va., that racism bombards the senses like a virus, leaving your skin sore, your soul hardened and your spirit fatigued; a disillusioning, full-body wizening that disrupts, destroys and (occasionally) ends lives.

Black People Are Not Even Legally Allowed To Be Afraid Of White People

OF COURSE a black person can’t legally “defend himself” against a white man. Every brother in here knows that black people can’t legally use force against a white person, no matter how threatening and dangerous that white person may be. Every black person I know knows that if they have to defend themselves against any white person out there, they’d best be willing to catch a homicide/attempted homicide charge. We don’t get to “stand your ground.” We don’t get to have “self-defense.” We get to run, or die. If we fight back, we get the full weight of the legal system crashing down on our heads.

Self-defense is just not a thing black people are allowed to do.

Mother of Philando Castile Speaks Out Against Not Guilty Verdict

People talk about Trenton street violence, that ain’t nothing compared to the violence of police shooting a man down in the street for nothing and the entire weight of the ‘justice, legal system’ standing in support of him. This systemic violence against people of color worldwide is the fight of The Nubian News. We must replace the system of white supremacy/racism with a system of justice.
