Black-White Wage Gap Grows as Americans Remain in Denial

The wage gap between blacks and whites is the worst it’s been in nearly four decades, according to a new report from the Economic Policy Institute.

Last year, the hourly pay gap between blacks and whites widened to 26.7%, with whites making an average of $25.22 an hour compared to $18.49 for blacks, the EPI found. Almost 40 years ago, in 1979, the wage gap between blacks and whites was 18.1%, with whites earning an inflation-adjusted average of $19.62 an hour and blacks earning $16.07 an hour.

What’s driving the wage gap has little to do with access to education, disparities in work experience or where someone lives, EPI found. Rather, the researchers found “discrimination…and growing earnings inequality in general,” to be the primary factors at play.

“Race is not a skill or characteristic that should have any market value as it relates to your wages, but it does,” said Valerie Wilson, the director of the program on Race, Ethnicity and the Economy at the EPI and a co-author of the report. (CNN)

Why Build a Lynching Memorial – EJI

My heart is so sad.  I’m filled with disgust and some anger. Since I was a child I’ve asked myself “How can people be so cruel?” At one point I decided white people couldn’t be human. No other human  acts so heinous.

Man Who Assassinated Three Officers Is Getting Released On Parole

Herman Bell, 70, was one of three murderers who used a bogus 911 call to lure New York Police Department (NYPD) Officers Waverly Jones and Joseph Piagentini into an ambush in 1971, the New York Post reported.

Officer Jones was shot in the head, and died instantly, according to the New York Daily News.

Bell and his fellow BRA cohorts, Anthony Bottom and Albert Washington, ruthlessly tortured Officer Piagentini as he told his assailants that he had a wife and two children, and begged for his life.

The trio shot Officer Piagentini 22 times. Bell used the officer’s duty weapon to fire the fatal round, FOX News reported.

Do you trust your mayor?

If you do, what he said at his 3rd State of the City address Wednesday evening left you breathless.
If you don’t trust him you probably wonder what he’s been smoking.
I think the truth of our mayor lays somewhere in between. It rests with a people who hopes his plans and works will finally lead us down a glory path without his selling our souls and the city to the devil.
He said Trenton had attracted $634 million in investments during his three years. I wondered who did those thousands of jobs go to. You figure if you’re paying $50,000 a year you can hire about 12,000 people with that kind of money. Trenton wouldn’t have an employment issue if that had happened.
He spoke about Starbucks opening next month and the jobs that would bring. I’m interested in the faces who make up those position when it comes.
He said, “On September 21, we celebrated the grand opening and ribbon-cutting of Maestro Technologies, a big data technology company that is bringing approximately 200 jobs.” Are they bringing 200 people in or are they hiring 200 people from Trenton. You know that answer.
He says “I am fully committed to the residents of Trenton.” I hope that is true I want to believe it is true. I don’t know if I do though.
He has left in place a Police Director who has said some of our residents are ‘Hood Rats”. The relationship between us and the police has never been good and may never be good. For it to be as good as possible takes leadership who at the least respects those under him. When the top man demeans any of those he is there to serve trust cannot be established. Mayor Jackson doesn’t accept this.
He said, “I’m very proud of our police force, and Police Director Ernest Parrey, Jr., who has weathered a politically motivated storm for his terrible choice of words. We’ve talked about it privately at length and the behavior will not happen again. Our community supports Director Parrey because he’s effective, accessible, communicative and deferential.”
It doesn’t matter if he says it again, we now know its what’s in his heart. And holding his tongue is not going to change what is in his heart. George Wallace stopped calling Black people ‘n****r’ but most of us know he never changed his heart. The only motivation behind our concerns are Parrey’s words and deeds.
Unlike the mayor very few of us believe what Parrey thinks has changed because he’s holding his tongue. To relate to all the people most effectively there must be new leadership in the police department.
The mayor said, ‘Our city is on the global map again, a place where ideas can translate into opportunities for everyone who wants them. . . We’ve worked hard—not just in our leadership, competency and effectiveness, but in the momentum of our city’s transformation.”
For this city to transform, the relationship between the residents and the police must first be dealt with. How do you move forward if you don’t trust your best interest will be upheld by those who are supposed to protect and defend you? You can’t. Why would we believe someone cared about us and our sons who thinks of us a vermin? We don’t. Without trust in a relationship there is no relationship.
For the good of the people Director Parrey must go.
Speaking of the people – the mayor didn’t say much about us. He hasn’t stayed in touch with us and from the sound of it there is no plan to change that. Communications is key to any endeavor. He serves us. How can he be of service to us if he doesn’t talk with us and we don’t talk with him?
What’s up with the West Ward? I’ve heard nothing from anyone especially from our councilman. North Ward? Nothing tonight. With all the money spent in Trenton we should be in a far better place than where we are. It’s like the school system, we spend billions and get so little return on our investment. Mr. Mayor we now expect more for our money, much more. Pay close attention Mr. Mayor. The times they are a changing.
He introduced the new superintendent of schools, Dr. Frederick McDowell. He said, Dr. McDowell would, “lead our district to a new level of excellence and achievement.” If they think we’ve been experiencing excellence they know something we don’t know.
Education and jobs got a very light touch in his speech. The way we see it those are the most critical activities which need to be addressed. As The Nubian News grows we will reach out to the mayor and the superintendent to learn their exact plans.
They want to be leaders, we expect them to do the work of leadership. So far we are not impressed. As they say you don’t have to listen to the words – the proof is always in the pudding.
Overall, though not overwhelmed by the speech, we aren’t dismayed. We stand with him now (though Parrey has to go). But come May, we expect more meat and potatoes on our plates.
The people of Trenton are rising, going to a better level, hopefully Mayor Jackson will lead us there. Regardless, we’re going.
Our children are dying, our mothers and grandmothers are crying, our young men are despairing but not one word on the plan to stop the violence. Come on Man!

Petition · We’re calling on Governor Brown to sign Californian rape survivor civil rights, AB1312, into law

California is close to passing a Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights that will guarantee comprehensive, common sense civil rights for survivors like me.

In March of 2015, I was sexually assaulted by a man I was dating. When I tried to stop his unprotected advances, he forced himself on me.

It’s hard to put into words exactly what one goes through after such a trauma. I think the best way to describe my experience is something akin to being on a roller coaster during an earthquake in the midst of a storm.

You know what they say – talk is cheap

Listening to Trump was like a total waste of time to many at the UN.

North Korea: Trump’s UN speech amounted to ‘the sound of a dog barking’

North Korea’s foreign minister has delivered a scornful response to US President Donald Trump’s threat to destroy the hermit kingdom, likening it to the sound of “a dog barking.”

Ri, in his country’s first response to Trump’s speech, was derisive. “If he was thinking he could scare us with the sound of a dog barking, that’s really a dog dream,” Ri told reporters outside his hotel in New York. In Korean, a dog dream is one that is absurd and makes little sense.

Trenton Street Funeral with Rev Mark A Broach

“This is what sick and tired looks like”

Stop the Killing of Our Young Men

On Friday there was a funeral march in Trenton. A march of mothers and father who have lost their sons senselessly by street crimes. Murders.

Rev Mark A. Broach, Pastor of the Trenton Deliverance Center, founded the Trenton Street Funeral organization. This organization brings together loved ones of those who are killed on our streets.

They are brought together to “give the family of victims a chance to express themselves”.

Rev Broach said, “ Trenton has had so many funerals that the community doesn’t get a chance to know what the families are going through. We’re giving them a chance to tell the community what they are going through.”

And tell they did. With a coffin, flowers, pallbearers, grieving mothers and a supportive community. About 200 people gathered at the Trenton War Memorial at five points. People who were saying “this is what sick and tired looks like”. (Go to www.thenubiannews.com for video of the funeral march.)

There are more than 180 unsolved murders in Trenton over the past 25 years. Trenton Street has approached Mayor Jackson with its concerns but it seems “his focus is off” on other things.

Next week Trenton Street Funeral will put their demand in writing to submit to the city council, the mayor and the county prosecutor’s office.

“We want to see change, we want to see things different. And the only way that we feel we can do that is if we go directly to the source. So we are going to be demanding change.”

The Most Racist Statue in America Is in … Pittsburgh, and It’s the Most Ridiculous Magical Negro You’ll Ever See

There are times, like when watching footage of what happened in Charlottesville, Va., that racism bombards the senses like a virus, leaving your skin sore, your soul hardened and your spirit fatigued; a disillusioning, full-body wizening that disrupts, destroys and (occasionally) ends lives.

Lakewood welfare: Half of children get assistance; families ‘panic’ after arrests|APP

Can you even begin to imagine how quickly Black people would have been outed if we tried this kind of fraud. Some of these people lived in $300,000 homes. Now to turn the story away from the crooks, white media is talking about the “sickening” anti-semitic reactions coming from the white public.

These four women were charged with 60 felony counts for welfare fraud over $100,000. Let’s see how many charges the Lakewood fraud people get.

LAKEWOOD – Welfare is so widespread in the township that half of all children live in homes that receive some form of government aid, an Asbury Park Press analysis of census data found.

But one statistic stands out among all other municipalities in the state. There are 10,000 more children in households with married couples in Lakewood receiving food, income or state aid than the next closest town.

A child daycare center was also used to help hide one couple’s true income, according to the charges.

Using public records, federal complaints and interviews with law enforcement officials, the Asbury Park Press examined the puzzle works of the government assistance fraud charges.

More than $1 million flowed through limited-liability companies – legitimate corporations set up to hide ownership – that enlisted relatives as straw owners and used corporate bank accounts to hide money, according to the charges.

At the center of most transactions was a local beeper store that helped transfer money across the globe, the charges state. As the 14 suspects were claiming poverty on government documents, they took in hundreds of thousands of dollars in undeclared income from the front companies.

The paper trail shows the relative ease the families had in allegedly defrauding the government. In one case, authorities say a woman was able to withdraw $1.5 million from a company and deposit the money into her personal bank account while still collecting public assistance.

Federal criminal complaints against Shimon and Yocheved Nussbaum, of Hadassah Lane, and Mordechai and Rachel Sorotzkin, of Albert Avenue, detail how one couple – the Nussbaums – is accused of moving money between companies they controlled and the other – the Sorotzkins – simply failed to report their full income.

These four arrests, as well as another 10 on state charges, have sent shock waves through the township

Hundreds of residents have called local officials to ask about amnesty for public assistance fraud, and dozens have begun canceling their benefits through Ocean County Social Services, authorities said.

In a statement issued late Wednesday and signed by Rabbi Mose Zev Weisberg, the Lakewood Vaad said it was “saddened beyond words” by the arrests, but added “As firm believers in the principle of ‘innocent until proven guilty,’ we suspend judgment until the disposition of these charges, and are comforted knowing that our judicial system is an able arbiter of justice.”

Black People Are Not Even Legally Allowed To Be Afraid Of White People

OF COURSE a black person can’t legally “defend himself” against a white man. Every brother in here knows that black people can’t legally use force against a white person, no matter how threatening and dangerous that white person may be. Every black person I know knows that if they have to defend themselves against any white person out there, they’d best be willing to catch a homicide/attempted homicide charge. We don’t get to “stand your ground.” We don’t get to have “self-defense.” We get to run, or die. If we fight back, we get the full weight of the legal system crashing down on our heads.

Self-defense is just not a thing black people are allowed to do.
